The most important rule after laser genesis is simple: keep your skin cool, clean, and protected from sun for the first 48 hours. Laser Genesis Cutera is a non-invasive laser treatment I use to improve texture, reduce redness, minimize large pores, and soften fine lines, wrinkles, and scars, and it’s priced at $200 at Youthful You Retreat here in Grand Blanc.
Most people have very little downtime, which is exactly why aftercare matters. A little extra heat, rubbing, or sun exposure right after treatment can keep you red longer than you need to be. And in Michigan, Grand Blanc’s seasonal sun plus indoor heating can dry and irritate skin even when it’s cold outside. SPF is not optional.
Your first 1 to 48 hours after Laser Genesis Cutera (do these, skip these)
Right after your session, it’s normal to feel warm and look a bit pink, kind of like a mild flush. Treat your skin like it’s temporarily more sensitive than usual.
In the first hour
- If you feel hot, use a cool compress for short bursts. No ice directly on skin.
- Don’t rub, scrub, or use a cleansing brush.
- Skip anything that stings. That “active tingle” isn’t your friend today.
For the first 24 to 48 hours
- Avoid direct sun. If you have to be outside, wear a hat and apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+.
- Hold off on strenuous exercise, hot yoga, and heavy sweating.
- Skip hot showers, saunas, pools, and hot tubs. Heat can keep redness hanging on.
- Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and a light moisturizer. Pat dry.
- Makeup: wait at least 24 hours before mineral makeup or light concealer. Avoid heavy, pore-clogging products for 48 hours.
Quick reminder: A lot of my clients love that the downtime is short. Keeping things cool and simple in the first 48 hours is what helps you stay in that “easy recovery” lane.
Days 3 to 7: keep the glow, don’t trigger extra redness
If you’re treating visible redness or you booked rosacea laser genesis, the theme for week one is consistency. You might look totally normal fast, but your skin is still settling.
Keep avoiding deliberate heat triggers if you tend to flush easily. That includes long hot showers and saunas, even if you feel “fine.” Stay gentle with cleansing. And please don’t pick or over-exfoliate because you want faster results. That usually backfires.
When can you work out again?
I generally recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours before intense workouts. If you still look pink or feel warm after 48 hours, give it another day and restart with something lighter.
And keep wearing SPF daily. Grand Blanc sun is sneaky in spring and winter, and indoor heating can dry you out. Both can make redness look worse.
The simple skincare lineup I like after a laser genesis laser session
You don’t need a complicated routine after Laser Genesis Cutera. Simple tends to look better.
- Cleanser: gentle, fragrance-free. Use lukewarm water, not hot.
- Moisturizer: lightweight and non-irritating. Apply with clean hands, no aggressive rubbing.
- SPF: broad-spectrum 30+ every morning. Reapply if you’re outside.
- Pause actives: stop retinoids and exfoliants for 3 to 7 days. If you’re sensitive, lean closer to a full week.

Redness timeline, swimming rules, and when I want you to call me
Most redness is mild and short-lived. A common pattern is pinkness that fades the same day or by the next day. If you’re still noticeably red past 72 hours, I want to hear from you.
Call us right away if you have increasing pain, blistering, pus, unusual swelling, or fever. I’d always rather you reach out early.
For swimming and hot tubs, I generally recommend waiting at least 48 hours. Heat and chemicals can irritate freshly treated skin.
“It’s been less than 24 hours and I already look significantly better and noticeably more youthful.”
one of our first-time clients
If you’re commuting along the South Saginaw commercial corridor, I keep follow-ups practical. Evening and weekend check-ins are often doable, and quick questions are welcome. I see patients from Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township, Mundy Township, Davison, Burton, and Flushing, so you don’t have to feel like you’re on your own once you leave the parking lot.
If you’re still prepping for your first appointment, read what to do before your first Laser Genesis Cutera session. It answers the “what should I stop using?” questions that come up a lot.
Cost questions, combo planning, and a quick note on other popular services
I get asked about pricing all the time. Laser Genesis treatment cost at Youthful You Retreat is $200 per session. The best number of sessions depends on what we’re targeting, like redness, pores, or fine lines.
And yes, people often compare options when they’re searching online for things like microneedling near me or even botox shots near me. I’m happy to talk through what makes sense for your skin goals and timing. Some clients are also exploring injectables like dermal fillers near me, lip fillers near me, or voluma cheek filler. If that’s you, we’ll map out a plan that respects healing time so you don’t stack irritation on top of irritation.
