Dysport Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) in First 48 Hours

By Youthful You Retreat, PLC | July 29, 2026

Most important rule: for the first 24 to 48 hours, keep your hands off the treated areas. No rubbing, no massaging, no “checking” them in the mirror with pressure. We’ve seen how fast things can start to feel better, including clients who told us their tight, painful forehead felt gone by nighttime, and protecting those first hours helps keep your result right where we placed it.

Dysport aftercare in the first 48 hours at Youthful You Retreat in Grand Blanc Michigan

If you just had Dysport in Grand Blanc, you’re probably doing the same thing everyone does on the drive home: wondering what’s normal, what to avoid, and how to keep bruising to a minimum. Dysport is an injectable we use to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, similar to Botox, and it often has a faster onset. Your session itself is usually quick, just a few minutes per area, then the aftercare is what protects the work we just did.

0 to 48 hours after Dysport: the exact do’s and don’ts we care about

Here’s our simple timeline. If you only remember one thing, remember this: don’t rub the treated area.

Right away (first 0 to 4 hours)

  • Stay upright. We generally recommend avoiding lying flat for about 4 hours.
  • Hands off. No pressing, rubbing, or massaging the injection sites.
  • If you’re puffy or tender, use a cold compress in short intervals (think 5 to 10 minutes at a time). Don’t freeze your skin.

The first 24 hours

  • Skip strenuous exercise and heavy sweating. That includes hot yoga, running, HIIT, and anything that gets your face flushed.
  • Avoid alcohol the day before and for 24 hours after when you can. It’s one of the easiest bruising prevention moves.
  • Avoid heat exposure like saunas, hot tubs, and tanning beds. Heat tends to make swelling and bruising worse.

Grand Blanc tip: our summer humidity and outdoor community weekends can make it easy to accidentally break the “no heavy sweat” rule. Plan to stay out of long outdoor heat for 48 hours, and try to schedule Dysport before the busiest weekend plans.

24 to 48 hours

  • Keep workouts lighter if you’re itching to move. Think easy walk, gentle stretching, or light weights with minimal straining.
  • Still avoid rubbing, facial massage tools, gua sha, and anything that “pushes” product into the skin.
  • If you see a tiny bump at an injection site, don’t pick at it. It usually settles quickly.

Days 3 to 7: the week that quietly makes or breaks your Dysport result

A lot of people feel good within a day or two and want to jump right back into everything. We get it. But the first week is when we want you to be a little boring and consistent so your result settles evenly.

  • No facial massages, deep facials, peels, or aggressive exfoliation for 7 days. If you’ve got a skincare appointment coming up, let us know and we’ll help you time it.
  • Keep heat in check. Even after 48 hours, intense heat can still aggravate lingering swelling or bruising for some people.
  • You can wash your face, just be gentle. Think light pressure, lukewarm water, pat dry.
  • Results are still developing. Many people start noticing change in 2 to 5 days, and full results are usually closer to the 2-week mark. That’s why we like a check-in window around then if something feels “off.”

And yes, we’ve had clients come in carrying a ton of forehead stress and feel relief fast. Protecting that first week helps keep the look smooth and natural, instead of chasing it with extra fixes later.

Makeup, skincare, arnica: what actually helps after Dysport

You don’t need a whole new routine after Dysport. You do need a gentle one.

Quick routine we usually recommend

  • Skincare: gentle cleanser, basic moisturizer, and daily sunscreen. Keep acids and harsh exfoliation on pause for a few days if your skin is feeling sensitive.
  • Makeup: if you wear it, keep application light and avoid grinding brushes into the injection sites the same day.
  • Bruising support: cold compress early can help. Some people like topical or oral arnica, but check with your own clinician first if you’re on other meds or have a medical reason to avoid supplements.
  • Medications: don’t stop blood thinners or prescribed meds for bruising prevention unless the clinician managing that medication tells you to.

If you’re coming to us from the South Saginaw commercial corridor on the southern edge of Grand Blanc near the Grand Blanc Township boundary, this is also why we keep aftercare simple. You shouldn’t have to rearrange your whole week. You just need a plan you can actually follow.

When to call us in Grand Blanc (and when it’s normal)

A little redness, mild swelling, small bumps at injection points, or a bruise that looks worse before it looks better can be normal. What we don’t want you doing is sitting at home worried for days.

Reach out to our team right away if you have increasing pain, spreading swelling, marked asymmetry that worries you, signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, fever), or any weakness that seems to spread. Tell us what you’re noticing and when your Dysport was done, and we’ll help you sort out next steps.

We’re easy to reach for commuters coming through the South Saginaw commercial corridor, and we serve Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township, Mundy Township, Davison, Burton, and Flushing. If you’re working around school and work schedules, ask about evening or weekend options so aftercare doesn’t turn into a juggling act.

Two helpful reads if you’re planning your next Dysport visit

If you like knowing the “why” behind the rules, these posts pair well with aftercare and help you plan timing around results.

Want a quick rule-of-thumb? If it involves heat, heavy sweat, alcohol, or pressure on the treated area, pause it for the first 24 to 48 hours. If it involves facial massage or strong facial treatments, give it a full week.

When you’re ready, we’ll talk through your goals and keep your result natural looking. Dysport injections are priced around $8 per unit, and we’ll map out what makes sense for your face so you don’t feel like you’re guessing.

Frequently Asked Questions

We generally recommend skipping strenuous exercise and heavy sweating for 24 to 48 hours after Dysport. A gentle walk is usually fine, but hold off on HIIT, running, hot yoga, and heavy lifting until you’re past that first 1 to 2 days.

Usually, yes, but keep it light the same day. Don’t press hard on the treated areas, and avoid aggressive blending or scrubbing with brushes and sponges for the first 24 hours.

Many people start noticing changes in about 2 to 5 days, with fuller results typically closer to 2 weeks. That’s why we like you to judge the final look around that 2-week mark, not the next morning.

Bruising can happen with any injections, even when everything goes perfectly. To reduce it, avoid alcohol the day before and 24 hours after when you can, use a cold compress in short intervals right after treatment if you’re puffy, and don’t take or stop blood-thinning medications unless the clinician managing those meds tells you to. Some people also use arnica, but check with your clinician first if you’re on other medications.

We recommend avoiding saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds, and other high-heat exposure for at least the first 24 to 48 hours. Heat can increase swelling and bruising, especially in that early window.
